Do Brazilians really win you titles?

May 12th 2008 06:24
Brazil is known for its beaches, its women and yes its success in football. The national team securing the most world cup wins out of any country and the only team to never fail to qualify.

Lets look at Australia, a developing football country with a premature league (A-League). The A-League will be kicking of its fourth season soon looking for ways to attract more crowds to a dominate rugby country.

The first season of the A-League rode of the back of Sydney FC's marque player Dwight York. Sydney won the title with the previous Manchester United striker never failing to deliver, unfortunately for Sydney and the entire A-League Dwight York had a falling out with the club and found himself back in the EPL with Sunderland.

With season two kicking off and no Dwight the A-League needed to find a new way to boost up its crowds. Brazilians! The place where kids were practically born with a ball at their feet.

Melbourne first to act signing brazilians Fred, Alessandro and Brebner out of this Fred was really the only Brazilian to deliver and as a result was given a contract in the MLS.

Queensland Roar also made their mark buying Brazilian Reinaldo with fans questioning his performance.

Adelaide also felt the Brazilian blow when they got 1994 world cup winner Romario, the media hype around this was unbelievable however he was a waste of money only scoring one goal with the time spent in the A-League and even at one stage substituted of because of his poor performance.

Melbourne won the 2006/07 season with an astonishing 6-0 over Adelaide in the final
however is wasn't the Brazilians who dominated this game but local Australian Archie Tompson who scored 5 goals in that final.

The 2007/08 season saw New Zealand knights replaced by Wellington Phoenix and who else did they buy to try and make an impact in the A-League but of course Brazilians. Phoenix finished the season last on the ladder.

Sydney and Newcastle also brought 3 Brazilians between them for Sydney Patrick and marque player Juninho and for Newcastle Mario Jardel. All three of these players lost a contract for the 2008/09 season.

So as you can see the Brazilian's are not the key for winning titles.
