Dwight Yorke is not coming back to Australia just yet
April 16th 2008 05:54
Former Manchester United and Sydney FC football star will not be joining the Mariners for the upcoming 2008-09 A-league season.
York 36 told Network Seven he still has the game and fitness to compete in the A-League and was looking forward to returning to Australia after two years in the English Premier League with Sunderland.
He was hoping to discuss his future with the Mariners over the next few days but Mariners executive chairman Lyall Gorman insisted "it's not going to happen".
Gorman held talks with Yorke's management in December last year. "We spoke to his management way, way, way back. It's not going to happen," he said.
This doesn't mean that Yorks return to the A-league is done and dusted with the 36 year old saying "I just hope the opportunity is given to me to return to Australia."
After his success with Sydney im sure many clubs will offer for his services.
